India Tour of England: KL Rahul will leave for England on June 16, alarm bells have started ringing in Team India after Rahul was ruled out of the South Africa series due to a back injury.
Likely to take off on June 16:-
But the series against England is near, and BCCI is not taking it lightly. Instead of completing the rehab process at the National Cricket Academy, Rahul is likely to fly to the UK on June 16.
“We will get the complete picture when he checks in at the NCA. He will do this in a day or two. But according to the team physio, it is not very serious in nature.
We are making arrangements to send him to the UK with the first batch to recover,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.
India Tour of England: However, the matter of concern for BCCI is KL Rahul’s recurrent injuries. Team India’s vice-captain has missed four series in the last seven months due to injury.
Also, he was sent for a scan during IPL 2022 due to a hamstring problem. But it was not of a serious nature.
KL Rahul’s injury timeline:-
November 2021 – Thigh strain: KL Rahul was ruled out of the two-match Test series against New Zealand in November due to a left thigh strain.
February 2021 – Hamstring: KL Rahul misses the T20I series against West Indies after injuring his left hamstring.
February 2021 – Hamstring: He does not recover in time and misses the T20I against Sri Lanka.
March 2021 – Hamstrings: A hamstring injury also ruled him out of the Test series against Sri Lanka.
With India gearing up for a marathon of bilateral matches ahead of the T20 World Cup in October, the BCCI has already started a rotation policy.
Not available for the T20 series:-
This is the reason why Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Siraj are not available for the T20 series against South Africa.
The first batch of players, including captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, will leave for England on June 16. Apart from the rest of the players like Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer, head coach Rahul Dravid will leave for the UK from Bengaluru on June 19 after the 5th T20I.
India Tour of England: KL Rahul will leave with the first batch but if BCCI is not able to make arrangements in time, he will leave with the second batch and continue the recovery there.
He said, ‘He should be available for the Test in England but it is too early to say anything. What we know so far is that the injury is not very serious but as a precaution, he was dropped from the South Africa series,” said a BCCI official.
India will play a warm-up match against Leicestershire from June 24 but KL Rahul is unlikely to be available for the same.
