A last-ball thriller against South Africa saw India’s campaign end dramatically early, with the defeat lowering them to fifth in the standings.
And a stunned Raj was eager to find the positivity out of a heartbreaking situation for his squad.
Raj said in the post-match press conference, “To be honest, I don’t have any feelings right now, I’m just trying to know how the match went, preparing myself to answer your questions. Am.”
“Maybe it will kill me tomorrow because at some point we have to deal with frustration, it is a process – it will take time.
“It was a good game overall if we have to judge it by the crowd, the people watching, the spectators, and for the game. But yes it is the end of the road in the tournament for the Indian team.
“A lot of good things have come out of the tournament like we have got Yastika Bhatia, Shafali Verma has started scoring runs. The spinners have done well.
There will be areas where as a team we need to work on moving forward. But overall, I think we could have done better. We could have done better in the early stages of the tournament.”
There were many rumors doing the rounds that the defeat would lead to the 39-year-old Raj’s international retirement, but the captain opted to make such an announcement after the game.
“I feel like you haven’t given me an hour to think about my future, to understand and process what happened today,” she said.
“I haven’t really planned too much about the future, as I said – for us players as athletes when you have this kind of disappointment at the World Cup, where you’ve really spent a lot in a year. If prepared hard, then it takes time for the players.
To accept and then maybe move on from there. So, as I mentioned, I haven’t really thought about the future.” Pressing on the issue, Raj again said he needed time.
“Well, as I said earlier, it wouldn’t be fair for me to discuss anything on that, given the kind of game we’ve played now. As I said, the feelings are still there. So it is expected to settle before I can be clear on that and answer it.
“These girls will definitely play a good standard of cricket in the years to come.
“And the way they get the feel of playing in different leagues and playing regularly with the best in the world, I am sure the team will be well prepared for future tournaments.
“But right now, I think as players we need some time to process like that that ends the campaign for the Indian team in the World Cup.”
Goswami, 39, did not announce his retirement even after a game, which he was forced to watch from the sidelines after an injury.
“Some things are not under our control and you can’t do anything about injuries,” he told the ICC.

“You prepare so well, you are doing a good job as a team and as an individual. It’s heartbreaking.
“But the other players I think it was an extraordinary game that they played, they fought till the last ball.”
“I just want to wish her all the best for her future endeavours. She has definitely put women’s cricket on the map and thank you for that.”
