IPL 2022: BCCI blames CSK and MI for the decline in IPL’s TV ratings, a top BCCI official has admitted that the fall in IPL 2022 TV ratings is worrying.
The Reasons for falling TV ratings:-
But according to him, the reason for falling TV ratings is the failure of teams like Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.

Admitting the fall in ratings, a BCCI official said, “I agree that there has been a decline in IPL viewership. But it is not due to cricket fatigue or anything predicted by the media.
This is actually due to the drop in form for teams like Mumbai Indians and CSK. They have 9 IPL titles between them, they are very popular. Since these teams are not doing well, it has affected the TV ratings.”
IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel:-
There has been a slight drop in viewership, but the numbers are not alarming. I don’t think they have any impact on the sale of media rights,” IPL chairman Brijesh Patel was quoted in the media.
According to a study conducted by TAM in 2020, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the most-watched teams in the IPL. Matches involving these two teams are always watched more than other matches.
CSK, MI, and KKR matches collectively contributed 41% of the total viewership of the previous season as per internal analysis for IPL 2021 data.

Of the top 10 most-watched matches last season, 7 involved one of these 3 IPL teams.
MI and CSK have failed to do well this year. Both are currently at numbers 10 and 9 in the IPL 2022 points table.

This clearly proves the fall in form for MI, and CSK. And even KKR has been the main reason behind the fall in IPL ratings.
But according to IPL chairman Brijesh Patel – there are other reasons why the rating of this IPL has seen a decline.
