IPL 2023: Former Indian player Wasim Jaffer has been appointed as the batting coach of the IPL franchise Punjab Kings.
Punjab Kings appointed Wasim as their batting coach:-
After which former England captain Michael Vaughan took a dig at Jaffer becoming the coach. On Wednesday, Punjab Kings appointed Wasim as their batting coach for next year’s IPL 2023.
The former Indian cricketer will make a comeback with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise after an absence of one year. Michael Vaughan has made a sarcastic comment about Jafar.
Notably, Jaffer, who was appointed in the role ahead of the 2020 season under Anil Kumble, stepped down ahead of the mega auction last year.
Bangladesh U-19 played the role of batting consultant:-
Wasim Jaffer joined the Odisha Ranji team after which he took up the role of Bangladesh U-19 batting consultant. He recently toured Pakistan with the Bangladesh Under-19 team.
After the news of Jaffer’s return to the IPL broke on social media, Michael Vaughan made a sarcastic comment about it. He said, “Someone I got out is the batting coach.”
IPL 2023: Even in IPL 2022, Punjab Kings failed to make it to the playoffs. The franchise has once again opted to rebuild with a new coaching staff coming in soon after Anil Kumble’s exit.
Shikhar Dhawan was made the captain:-
In Trevor Bayliss, Charles Langeveldt and Brad Haddin are there, while Mayank Agarwal was removed as captain, and Shikhar Dhawan has been made captain in his place.
Agarwal was released after the team management saw Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow as their first-choice partnership. The Karnataka opener was retained ahead of last season for Rs 14 crore.
And the Punjab Kings could very well look to scale back their investment and focus on other areas of the team.
Along with Agarwal, players like Odion Smith have been shown the door. Shah Rukh has done well in the domestic circuit which propelled PBKS to a massive 9.0 crore collection but was retained on the deadline day.

IPL 2023: Odion Smith was also bought for Rs 6 crore but he could not live up to his reputation. Smith could only manage 51 runs in the six matches he played at a strike rate of 115.91.
With the ball, he scored runs at an alarming rate of 11.87. The West Indian also went unsold in the recent SA20 auction and was later released.
