IPL 2023: Two big decisions will be taken in IPL in the next 15 days. SRH captain to be announced and Rishabh Pant’s replacement to be decided.

Border-Gavaskar Trophy from 9 February:-

At present, even though everyone’s eyes are on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia (IND vs AUS Test Series) from 9 February.

But the IPL franchises are preparing for the next season. While some teams have already started training.

On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals will have to solve their captaincy problems first.

Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of IPL 2023. After which Delhi Capitals need a captain as well as a wicketkeeper.

So Hyderabad has limited captaincy options. Based on Aiden Markram’s success in the SA20, they will decide on the next SRH captain in the next 15 days.

India may be in trouble in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy:-

Pant’s absence beyond the IPL could trouble India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

The Indian wicket-keeper has earned a lot of respect with his performances in many countries including Australia.

But due to serious injuries in a car accident, he will have to stay away from cricket for about 9 months. Due to this Delhi Capitals need a new captain in his absence as well as a wicketkeeper.

On the other hand, by releasing KS Bharat from the team, Delhi Capitals have done the work of hitting themselves in the foot. As a result, DC’s team is without a wicketkeeper.

At present, they have only wicketkeeper Phil Salt who does not do regular wicketkeeping.

Delhi Capitals need a wicketkeeper:-

• Rishabh Pant is the only regular wicket-keeper on the roster.
• In Pant’s absence, DC has two part-time keeping options – Phil Salt and Sarfaraz Khan.
• However, with just 4 foreigners allowed in the playing XI, DC would struggle to fit in at Salt.
• David Warner, Anrich Nortje, Rovman Powell or Mitchell Marsh, and Riley Rossouw were the ideal 4 foreigners.
• But now, DC will have to field an all-rounder or a hard-hitter to fit Salt in the squad.
• The other option in the team is Sarfaraz Khan.
• But Sarfaraz does not have T20 experience, nor does he keep wickets regularly.
• DC will have to find an alternative to the Indian wicketkeeper.

David Warner is the prime candidate to be the stand-in captain in IPL 2023. However, Manish Pandey is also an option.

But considering Warner’s stature in the team, he is sure to be made the next captain. DC director Sourav Ganguly and head coach Ricky Ponting will confirm the next captain in a couple of weeks.
