Ishan Kishan made his international debut on Sunday, making an instant a fiery half-century in the second Twenty-20 International (T20I) against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Kishan became only the seventh Indian player to win a Player of the Match award in his debut T20I match, smashing 56 off 32 balls setting up the chase of 165, partnering with the skipper Virat Kohli (73* off 49) for a stand of 94 runs in just nine overs.
However, Ishan Kishan has revealed that he had no idea that he had reached his fifty and it was only when Kohli congratulated him saying ‘Top Knock’ then he realized that he might have reached his milestone.
Yuzvendra Chahal, jokingly said: “Attitude dekh rahe ho [Did you all see his attitude?” The duo shared a laugh over the joke, Virat said ”show your bat to the crowds all around the park. Show your bat, it’s your first match” That’s what I moved around facing each part of the stadium while raising my bat,” Kishan signed off.
It is a proud moment to represent your country. I was very happy to get this opportunity. But it is my first game, I was a little nervous while going to the ground.
The left-handed batsman credited the IPL for his growth. Ishan plays for Mumbai Indians.
Dedicated this Award to my coach’s father who passed away a few days back, said Kishan.
Ishan, known for his attacking batting, made a formidable England attack look ordinary with his disdainful hitting. His sensational knock comprised five fours and four sixes.
It’s not easy when you come here and play your first game. Mumbai Indians have taught me a lot. I’ve been there with so many senior players and they have given me very good advice.
The Indian top-order batsman was awarded the ‘Man Of The Match’ award for scoring a match-winning half-century.
