Jake Weatherald: The South Australia opener will take an indefinite break from the game and will not return in the 2022-23 season but his home coach hopes to see him back “sooner or later”.

Australia coach Jason Gillespie confirmed:-

South Australia coach Jason Gillespie has confirmed it is “unlikely” Jake Weatherald will return to top-level cricket this summer but is hopeful the dynamic opener will don the Redbacks colors again.

Weatherald has not played before Christmas after suffering an abdominal strain, which saw him replaced by the Adelaide Strikers in the KFC BBL | 12 was sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

SA Cricket Association informed:-

But he has since informed the SA Cricket Association that he is taking an indefinite break from the game.

Announcing the SACA squad for the Marsh Sheffield Shield matches against Western Australia starting tomorrow at the Adelaide Oval.

SACA Sports Science and Sports Medicine Manager John Porter confirmed Weatherald’s unavailability.

He will be unavailable for the rest of the season:-

“Jake is currently taking a break from the game to work on his mental health and fitness and will be unavailable for the remainder of the season,” Porter said.
