Jasprit Bumrah Injury: Indian Cricket Team fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has Reached New Zealand to undergo back surgery.

Bumrah will undergo surgery under the supervision of Dr. Rowan Schouten:-

After delaying the surgery for months, Bumrah will now undergo surgery under the supervision of Dr. Rowan Schouten.

Apart from Shane Bond, New Zealand’s surgeon also operated on Joffra Archer. However, it may take three-four months for Bumrah to recover and only then he will be able to return to cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah has gone to New Zealand to undergo surgery to be fit for the 2023 World Cup.

He has already been ruled out of Border Gavaskar Trophy, WTC Final, and IPL 2023. In such a situation, he is going to be missed in the team including IPL and WTC finals.

A BCCI source told:-

Sports Tak quoted a BCCI source as saying, “Jasprit Bumrah went to New Zealand five days ago to undergo back surgery.

After the doctors advised Bumrah to undergo surgery, the BCCI immediately made all the arrangements and sent him. The surgery will be done in a day or two.”

Officially, it will take four weeks for Bumrah to get back on his feet. But recovery is long. After recovery, he will begin an arduous rehabilitation that may take 3-5 months.

While a senior BCCI official told Sport earlier, “It is difficult to fix the date of return. Once he recovers from the surgery, he will undergo rehab and only after the rehab is over will we know when he can come back.”

Jasprit Bumrah injury timeline:-

  • July 2022: Bumrah complained of a back problem after the second ODI against England in July 2022 and missed the third ODI. Upon further consultation, it was learned that he had a re-emergence of a back injury in 2019.
  • August 2022: Missed the ODI series in West Indies. Returned to NCA after increasing back issue.
  • August 2022: Bumrah misses the Asia Cup as he could not recover in time.
  • September 2022: After two and a half months of recovery, Bumrah is flown back for the South Africa series ahead of the T20 World Cup.
  • September 2022: After bowling just 6 overs in two T20 matches, the move backfires due to Bumrah’s injury.
  • October 2022: Bumrah was completely ruled out of T20 World Cup.
  • November 2022: The fast bowler missed the New Zealand tour.
  • December 2022: He also missed the Bangladesh tour.
  • January 2023: Although he was initially named for the Sri Lanka ODI series, he was ruled out after complaining of back pain at the NCA while doing a high workload in fitness sessions.
