Joe Root has resigned from the captaincy of the England Test team. The England Cricket Board (ECB) gave this information officially.
Joe Root said in a statement that he would continue playing as a player, and would assist in choosing a new captain (England Test Captain 2022).

England’s most successful Test captain is Joe Root:-
Joe Root achieved a new milestone for the England Test under his captaincy. Meanwhile, he also became the most successful English Test captain.
He won 27 Tests for England under his captaincy, which is the most. Mitchell Vaughan (26) set this record, leaving behind Alastair Cook (24).
India was defeated in the Test series 4-1 in 2018:-
Under the captaincy of Joe Root, England defeated India 4-1 in the Test series in 2018. After this, they won the series 3-1 in South Africa in 2020.
Joe Root became the first English Test captain since 2001 to win a Test series in Sri Lanka. In 2021 too, they defeated Sri Lanka by 2-0 in Sri Lanka.

Joe Root Steps Down as Captain:-
England has to play their next Test match against India, which will be the last match of the series that was played last year.
Had to postpone due to Corona. This Test will be played as per the schedule from July 1 to 5. India is leading 2-1 in this series.
