Kane Williamson: NZ Star Unlikely To Feature in Cricket WC 2023. New Zealand are set to be without the services of Kane Williamson for this year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup after the veteran batsman was forced to undergo knee surgery.

Kane’s anterior cruciate ligament was injured:-

Williamson suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury while fielding for Gujarat Titans in the IPL, scans revealed on Tuesday.

It means Williamson is in a race against time to prove his fitness ahead of the tournament, with a six-month rehabilitation time being the standard length for injury.

New Zealand Cricket accepted support from both:-

Williamson acknowledged the support from both his IPL team and New Zealand Cricket, although he vowed that he would do his best to play in India in October.

“I have received a lot of support over the past few days and I would like to thank both Gujarat Titans and New Zealand Cricket for that,” Williamson said.

“Obviously getting an injury like this is disappointing. But my focus is now on getting the surgery done and starting my rehab.

Williamson will go under the knife within the next three weeks:-

“It’s going to take some time, but I will do everything to get back on the field as soon as possible.”

New Zealand confirmed Williamson would go under the knife within the next three weeks. However, if the white-ball captain had to miss out.

So the 32-year-old leaves a hole in a team that is desperate to better its 2019 Cricket World Cup performance.

The right-handed batsman has scored over 6000 ODI runs at an average of 47.83 since his debut in the format in 2010, leading the team in runs as of 2019.
