Mitchell’s left hand middle finger remains in brace:-

Starc’s middle finger on his left hand remains in a brace after severing the tendon from the bone in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa in the NRMA Insurance series, leaving him unable to bowl.

The left-arm seamer is the second-fastest behind Pat Cummins in Australia’s most recent Test tours in Asia, where he averages under 30 with reverse swing.

Starc also plays an important secondary role in Australia’s attack, creating a footmark for Nathan Lyon to swing the ball as he comes around the wicket.

The 32-year-old was thought to have a 50-50 chance of playing in the first Test in Nagpur on February 9 but is unlikely beyond the four-match series.
