But meanwhile, several celebrities including cricketer MS Dhoni have been found violating advertising rules by the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), the self-regulatory body of the advertising industry.

According to ASCI, there has been a rise in complaints against celebrities. FY23 saw a massive jump of 803 percent in complaints against celebrities to 503 advertisements, as against 55 in the year-ago period.
According to a report in The Free Press Journal, the ASCI report states, “Despite the Consumer Protection Act now legally requiring celebrities to do their due diligence when they appear in advertisements.
The Celebrities feature in 97 percent of cases
In 97 percent of the cases processed by ASCI featuring celebrities, they failed to provide any evidence of due diligence.”
Cricketer MS Dhoni tops the list of celebrities who have failed to do due diligence with 10 cases of non-compliance, the body said.
YouTuber and actor-comedian Bhuvan Bam was second with seven cases of non-compliance with his name.
Earlier in 2013, MS Dhoni had also been in controversies due to an advertisement. A case was registered against the former India captain for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.

Which he showed back in his many hands and the item included a shoe. However, the case was struck down by the Supreme Court in 2016.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni is in fine form in IPL 2023. He has scored 98 runs in 13 matches at an impressive strike rate of 196.
