New Zealand Captain Sophie Devine has No Imminent Plans To Retire

New Zealand captain Sophie Devine has no imminent plans to retire and lauded the contribution of youngsters to the team.

The Scored a cool 48 against South Africa:-

Devine scored a cool and 48 against South Africa in New Zealand’s Commonwealth Games opening match as his team secured a 13-run victory over South Africa at Edgbaston.

Devine also contributed significantly with the ball, registering figures of 3/37 in his four overs. This performance helped her become the first bowler from New Zealand to claim 100 wickets in the T20I format.

When asked about his future plans after the New Zealand win, Devine replied, “Are you telling me I should retire? I’m just joking.

Wanted to go to the domestic world cup:-

I wanted to go to the domestic World Cup earlier this year, and I was going to reassess [after], but of course I still have a lot of fire in my stomach.”

The White Ferns are currently in a transition phase, with Amy Satterthwaite announcing her international retirement and Lee Taihuu also missing from the Commonwealth Games squad.

“I think the way they’ve come into the group, they fit in so well. I think it’s a credit to the environment we’ve created within White Fern that that kind of player can come in.

It doesn’t matter if they’re young or old and they can feel comfortable and perform well,” Devine said.

Devine was also full of praise for ICC’s 100% cricket superstar, Amelia Kerr, saying the 21-year-old inspires her to be a better player.

“She inspires me to be a better player. She’s world-class, and it’s great that she has someone good around the group.

She’s a big dreamer and talks training about how we’ll be on the podium together,” Devine said.

After their win against South Africa, Devine and New Zealand will next be eyeing a win against Sri Lanka. The two sides will face off at Edgbaston on Tuesday, 2 August.
