New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell Ruled Out Of T20 Tri-Series Against Pakistan And Bangladesh

New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has been ruled out of the T20 tri-series against Pakistan and Bangladesh after Mitchell fractured his right hand while training in the nets in Lincoln on Friday, October 7.

Mitchell broke his fifth metacarpal (Pinky finger):-

The 31-year-old suffered a concussion in his hand and on X-rays. it was determining that Mitchell had broken his fifth metacarpal (pinky finger).

His hand is placing in a cast and according to Blackcaps physio Theo Kapakoulakis. It will be there for at least two more weeks.

The injury comes at a bad time for New Zealand. With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 just nine days away.

It will take time to assess Michel’s availability:-

Team head coach Gary Stead said the team will take time to assess Mitchell’s availability for the upcoming marquee event.

New Zealand is setting to depart for Australia on 15 October. And teams can make changes to their squads by 9 October. After which any replacement will need to be approved by the ICC.

“It’s a real shame for Daryl to suffer this injury on the eve of an exciting season of cricket,” Stead said.

His all-rounder skills in the tri-series:-

“Daryl has become a really important player for our T20 unit. And we are definitely going to miss his all-rounder skills and versatility in the tri-series.

“With our first game of the World Cup in just two weeks. We need to take some consideration of Daryl’s recovery timeline and his potential participation in the tournament.”

New Zealand is yet to name Mitchell’s replacement for the tri-series. They will start their tri-series campaign against Pakistan on 8 October at Hagley Oval.
