Four months after being appointed head coach of the Pakistan women’s team for the second time, Mark Coles has resigned with immediate effect, citing personal reasons. Coles previously served as the team’s head coach from 2017 to 2019.

The resignation comes in the wake of a less-than-ideal squad for the women’s team, which will take on South Africa in a high-profile series on home soil, starting on September 1 in Karachi.

Both the teams play three T20Is and three ODIs, all six matches will be played in Karachi. The PCB said the new coach would be announced “in due course”, although there was no guarantee that a permanent replacement would be in place by the time the series begins.

Pakistan’s upcoming schedule is very busy and they have to play 15 ODIs and 17 T20 matches in the coming year.

Apart from South Africa, they host West Indies at home and travel to Bangladesh, New Zealand, and England.

The resignation comes as a surprise to PCB:-

The resignation is understood to have come as a surprise to the PCB and Coles has not made any public comment on the matter.

When he was announced as Pakistan’s head coach with Nida Dar as the new captain. He said he was “excited to lead the team in the upcoming events”.

Coles said at the time, “It is a privilege to work with such a talented group of players and I look forward to exciting times ahead as we aim to improve on our past performances and achievements.”

“There is a lot of potential in our squad and I look forward to helping the players bring out their best and achieve success on the international stage.”

Lastly, he would not oversee any sports during this second term. When he was first appointed in 2017, he enjoyed a relatively successful time on the pitch.

Pakistan won nearly half of their ODI matches – 7 out of 16 – including a famous series win. Against the West Indies.

He also won 15 T20Is out of 32 before Coles stepped down due to “family commitments”.
