The Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday announced that the first Test against New Zealand will begin in Karachi on December 27, while the second and final Test will be held in Multan from January 4.
Pakistan currently sits fifth in the World Test Championship standings and will need to win most of their remaining five Tests from this period if they are to play in next year’s final.
Babar Azam’s team hosted England for three Tests in early December, before taking on Kane Williamson’s team in a pair of Test matches in the new year.
New Zealand will also play three ODIs in Pakistan in mid-January and return to the country in April for a total of 10 white-ball fixtures over a four-week period, adding up to the abandoned tour since September last year.
PCB Director of International Cricket Zakir Khan is already looking forward to New Zealand’s return to the country.
“New Zealand is one of the high-performing sides and the more we play against the top teams in our backyard.
We will get better as a unit, which is crucial for our objective of breaking into the top three across all formats. ” They said.
“New Zealand matches will provide our youth with the opportunity to see and follow their favorite players in action.
Something he missed when we were forced to play our international cricket offshore.”
And it is no surprise that valuable World Test Championship points are high on Pakistan and Zakir’s agenda.
“Three Tests against England and then two Tests against New Zealand in six weeks will give us an opportunity to solidify our claim of a place in the final of the ICC World Test Championship,” he said.
“Eight ODIs will help us prepare for September’s Asia Cup and October’s 50-over ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
“That way, the series against New Zealand will not only be from the top drawer but will also have context, making it worth watching.”
