PCB’s U-Turn Before T20 WC! Babar Azam Again Becomes The Captain Of Pakistan. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) just pulled a surprise U-turn, handing the captaincy of both the T20 and ODI teams back to Babar Azam! This comes right before the big ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Remember The Heartbreak Of The 2023 World Cup?
That’s when Babar stepped down as captain after the loss. Shaheen Afridi then took the reins for the T20 squad.

But now, PCB is putting their faith back in Babar. Looks like his impressive captaincy record and experience played a big role in this decision.
Babar’s stats as captain are pretty darn good. He boasts a win percentage of 50% in Tests, 61.90% in ODIs, and 60.37% in T20s.
What is Babar Azam’s Record in Captaincy?
This move might sting for Shaheen Afridi, though. He did well as captain, leading the team to several victories.
Babar has captained Pakistan in 20 Test matches, winning 10 of them while losing 6 matches. Apart from this, Babar had captained in 42 ODI matches, out of which 26 matches were won, while 14 matches were lost. Apart from this, Babar has captained Pakistan in 71 T20 matches, out of which 42 matches have been won, while 23 matches were lost.
