A BCCI official told Sport, “Rahul will leave for London in the last week of May, around May 23-24.

The players will leave after their IPL commitments. Some will go with Dravid as his IPL campaign ends.”

However, Cheteshwar Pujara is expected to join the squad for the final round preparations. He is currently playing for Sussex in the County Championship Division II in England.

Included in Team India for WTC Final:-

With a gap in the county after May 21, he will take a short break before joining Team India for the WTC final.

Meanwhile, a four-member selection committee will pick the team in the first week of May. While almost all the faces of the team against Australia will retain their places, the selectors will have to decide on Shreyas Iyer’s replacement.

With Suryakumar Yadav still not having enough experience to play Tests in England, the selectors are likely to recall Ajinkya Rahane for the WTC final.

Ajinkya Rahane has been in form ever since he was dropped from the Test team after the tour of South Africa last year. He has scored a lot of runs in Ranji Trophy and is looking in good form in IPL 2023 as well.

His experience in England could be crucial and that is why the selectors have asked him to practice with the red ball during the IPL. Sky has also returned to his form to pose problems for the selectors.

India Squad WTC Final 2023:

  • India’s team will remain the same as it was during the recent Test series against Australia.
  • A selection committee headed by Shiv Sunder Das will select a 15-member squad for the WTC final. With Shreyas Iyer injured, India needs his replacement.
  • KL Rahul is set to open with Rohit Sharma, which may force Shubman Gill to find a slot in the middle order.
  • However, India needs a backup opener as well as a backup middle-order batsman.
  • Mayank Agarwal is likely to be recalled as the backup opener.
  • Ajinkya Rahane is also in the race for the middle order slot.
  • For the wicket-keeper’s spot, KS Bharath will continue in the team despite struggling against Australia.
