India won the Under-19 World Cup held in the West Indies this year. The command of this team was in the hands of Delhi batsman Yash Dhul. Not even a year has passed and this 20-year-old batter has got a big responsibility. Yash Dhull has been made the captain of the Delhi team. He will be seen handling the command of Delhi in this Ranji season.

Interestingly, Ishant Sharma played 105 Tests but was not chosen as captain. Dhull will probably be one of the youngest players to captain Delhi. A day before, the Delhi District and Cricket Association announced the Delhi team for the upcoming Ranji season and DDCA surprised everyone by handing over the captaincy to Dhull.

Yash Dhull had hit two centuries on their first-class debut

Dhull made his first-class debut in Ranji Trophy only last year and he has played only 8 first-class matches so far. In this, he has scored 820 runs at an average of 74. The right-handed batsman made his first-class debut for Delhi in February this year after India won the Under-19 World Cup under his captaincy. He did wonders in his debut match against Tamil Nadu. Dhull scored a century while opening in both the first and second innings. This match was a draw.

The big decision of DDCA

It is understood that Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) officials wanted to make a change this season, due to which Dhull was handed over the reins due to his consistent performance and leadership ability. A source close to the DDCA selection committee told PTI on condition of anonymity, “Somewhere we had to draw the line.

Dhawan is not included in the team for the first two matches

The Delhi team has been selected for the opening two matches against Maharashtra in Pune from 13 to 17 December and against Assam from 17 to 20 December. The source said, ‘Ishant has also been given some matches. Hope he will take on more responsibility. Shikhar Dhawan, who made it to the 39-member initial squad, has not found a place in the Delhi squad selected for the first two matches.

Yash Dhull youngest captain

Dhull is the youngest player on the team at the age of 20 years and 29 days. But definitely, he has more red ball experience than Hrithik Shokeen and Ayush Badoni. All of them made their debut in IPL last year.
