Roy Kaia was suspended for bowling in international cricket

An independent representation found the bowling action of Zimbabwe all-rounder Roy Kaia to be illegal and he was suspended from bowling in international cricket.

He can bowl in domestic cricket with the permission of the Zimbabwe Cricket. However, he can also apply for a change in his bowling action as per ICC rules.

“Kaya’s international suspension will be recognized and all national cricket events played under their jurisdiction,” an ICC announcement said.

Offspinner Roy Kaia’s bowling action was reported during just one Test against Bangladesh in Harare last month. He bowled a total of 23 overs in the match without taking any wicket. With the bat, he had obtained a pair in Zimbabwe’s 220-run defeat.

The ICC notice said that an expert panel interpreted the footage of Kaia’s bowling action, “assessment at an ICC accredited center was not possible due to various interruptions as a result of COVID-19”.

Played for Zimbabwe in an ODI in Pakistan in 2015

Roy Kaia, 29, first played for Zimbabwe in an ODI in Pakistan in 2015. This is his only performance in cricket at ball time for the country.

He entered Test cricket earlier this year, that too against Pakistan, and has played two more Tests since then.

‘Since’ the Bangladesh Test in Harare last month, ‘So’ Kaia has played three rival games – two ODIs and one T20 – against the Namibia Eagles.

He went without a wicket in all three matches and managed to score 6, 14, and 11 runs.
