A senior BCCI official told Sport on Monday, “SS Das will continue as the interim president for now.

We will take a decision on the 5th selector when the time is right. As of now, the squad for the Australia series has been announced and after that, we have a gap of two months for the IPL. For the WTC final, we can take a call on that during or before the IPL.”

The command of the selection committee is back to four members:-

After the resignation of Chetan Sharma, the command of the selection committee is back to four members. In fact, after the T20 World Cup 2021, India was with only four selectors.

And only last month, the team got a full five-member selection committee. However, the BCCI is in a quandary whether to call back some of the shortlisted candidates or invite fresh applications for the job.

The last time when the board posted an application there were around 100 applications. However, one of the big names who did not even make the shortlist was former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad. On the other hand, if he was selected, he would probably have been the chief selector.

With 25 combined Test experience, Shiv Sundar Das is the only one to have played 23 Tests. The entire selection committee has international cricket experience of just 55 matches.

Need an experienced candidate as Sharma’s replacement:-

Most of the players in the current Indian team have played more than 100 international matches. Therefore, the Indian cricket board needs an experienced candidate as a replacement for Chetan Sharma.

But this is not an ideal situation. We have to see what the CAC recommends. For the time being, the existing panel will continue.”
