SL vs AUS: Sri Lanka suffered a major setback on Thursday as three Sri Lankan players tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the second Test against Australia, which is scheduled to begin tomorrow (Friday).

Three Players Dropped from the team

The affected cricketers include Dhananjaya de Silva, Asitha Fernando, and Jeffrey Vandersay, who have been dropped from the squad.

The COVID-19 test came back negative for the rest of the team except backup spinner Praveen Jayavikrama, who will miss tomorrow’s match.

However, former Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews will now be available for the second Test after testing negative for coronavirus. Both the players contracted COVID-19 last week.

Meanwhile, left-arm spinner Lakshan Sandakan has been included in the squad.

Sri Lanka is hosting the Test series against the Kangaroos at the Galle International Stadium.

Sri Lanka will try to change the situation in the second Test. The hosts will depend heavily on their spinners to do the job. The pitch was quite a spinner friendly in the first Test and the same is expecting in the second Test as well.

Sri Lanka recalled the services of their most experienced and in-form batsman Angelo Mathews in the second innings.

A Tested Covid on the second day:-

who tested Covid on the second day and was replacing by Oshada Fernando on the morning of the third day.

However, Mathews has recovered and is expecting to feature in Sri Lanka’s playing XI. Under the series protocol, any player who tests positive will have to isolate for five days.

With de Silva, Fernando, and Vandersay ruling out of the Test match, the spin duo of Sri Lanka’s Mahesh Thekshana and Dunith Wellalage are likely to be handing the debut cap.
