South Africa’s leading fast bowlers have been ruled out of the third ODI against Australia, with news that star fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the match due to a back injury.
Nortje suffered lower back spasms during the Proteas’ 123-run loss to Australia in the second match of the ongoing ODI series and left the field after bowling five overs.

He later returned to bat for South Africa but would require further medical assessment.
The 29-year-old will undergo scans in Johannesburg on Monday to ascertain the severity of the injury and hence will miss the third ODI on September 12.
With less than a month to go for the start of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, South Africa will have to sweat the scan results with the Proteas’ first match of the tournament scheduled to take place on October 7 against Sri Lanka in Delhi.
South Africa is trailing 0-2 in the five-match ODI series against Australia and will have to win the next match to retain the series.
