Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Kumara Ruled Out Of WC Qualifiers Due To Side Strain

Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Kumara was ruled out of the WC qualifiers with a side strain, completing only two overs in the match before being carried off the field.

Sri Lankan pacer Lahiru Kumara has been ruled out of the remainder of their campaign in the World Cup qualifiers due to a hamstring injury suffered during their win against the Netherlands.

Sri Lanka named the uncapped Sahan Arachige as Kumara’s replacement. The 27-year-old left-handed batsman, who also bowls off-spin.

Kumara was one of Sri Lanka’s three standby players:-

Was one of Sri Lanka’s three standby players for the tournament. Arachige has played 66 List A games, scoring 1454 runs at an average of 29.07.

Sri Lanka have won all five of their matches so far in the tournament. They will now face Zimbabwe on July 2 and West Indies on July 7. The top two teams in the Super Six points table will advance to the World Cup.

Hasaranga reprimanded by ICC:-

Wanindu Hasaranga has been handed one demerit point for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct.

The incident also occurred during a match against the Netherlands when he “aggressively hit the boundary line with his bat” upon being dismissed.

This was a breach of Article 2.2 of the ICC Code which deals with the “misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match”.

Hasaranga pleaded guilty and accepted the penalty proposed by the match referee.
