Sudhir Naik Died: Former Indian Team Batsman Passed Away in A Hospital in Mumbai. Former batsman Sudhir Naik, who played three Test matches for Team India in 1974-75, died in a hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Sources in Mumbai Cricket Association have confirmed this to PTI. He was 78 and had been ailing for some time. He is survived by a daughter.

A source in the MCA, who is monitoring Naik’s health, said, “Recently he had a fall on the bathroom floor and hit his head.

After which he was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai. He had gone into a coma and never recovered.

The Ranji Trophy-winning captain:-

Naik was a highly respected figure in Mumbai cricket circles. He was the Ranji Trophy-winning captain when he led Mumbai in the 1970-71 season.

Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy that season without stars like Sunil Gavaskar, Ajit Wadekar, Dilip Sardesai, and Ashok Mankad.

But when the next Ranji season started, Naik was dropped from the playing XI as the main batsmen were back in the team.

The Credit for Grooming Zaheer Khan’s cricket career:-

In 1974, Naik toured England and made his debut in the Birmingham Test, scoring 77, his only half-century.

He played 85 first-class games and scored 4376 runs at an average of 35.29. After his playing career in 1978, Naik turned to coaching.

This had a major impact on Zaheer Khan’s career. He is credited with grooming Zaheer Khan’s cricket career. He was also the chairman of Mumbai’s selection committee and in later years worked as chief curator at the Wankhede Stadium.
