India captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid have started the search for a replacement. Bumrah was ruled out of the World Cup on Monday due to a back injury.

And he will remain in India for the marquee event. In his absence, many names have been named in his place.
With Mohammed Shami, Deepak Chahar, and Mohammad Siraj believing to be the frontrunners, the Indian team management, and selectors will decide in the coming days.
While Siraj and Chahar were part of the 2-1 series win against South Africa, Shami was missing in action after failing to recover in time from a positive COVID test.
Chahar and Siraj’s Proteas in Indore:-
Chahar and Siraj didn’t have the best of games in the final T20I against the Proteas in Indore, registering figures of 1/48 and 0/44 respectively as the hosts suffered a 49-run loss.
With his experience of bowling in Australian conditions, Shami has now reportedly emerged as the option that the Indian selectors can opt for in Australia. Shami has been part of a two-Test series win in India, while also playing in the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
Dravid was asking about Shami’s possible participation in the post-match conference following India’s loss to South Africa on Tuesday and said a decision would be taken soon.
“Who is the replacement, we will see, we will see, we have time till October 15. Shami is obviously someone who is on standby, but unfortunately for us, he could not play this series, which is ideal from that point of view. Would have been,” said Dravid.
His condition after 14-15 days of Covid:-
“He is at the NCA (National Cricket Academy in Bangalore) at the moment – we will have to get reports on how he is recovering. And what is his condition 14-15 days post-Covid, and we will take a call.

India will now fly to Australia where they will play some practice matches against Australia and New Zealand. They will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan in Melbourne on 23 October.
