Temba Bavuma: South Africa Named Test Captain in Replace Of Dean Elgar

Temba Bavuma: South Africa was named Test captain in place of Dean Elgar. Cricket South Africa (CSA) named Temba Bavuma as the Test captain as part of the restructuring in the national team’s leadership group.

ODI captain Bavuma will take over the reins of the red-ball team from Dean Elgar. The latter will be available to play for the Proteas.

The 32-year-old has relinquished the T20I captaincy:-

The new captain of the South Africa T20I team will be included in the limited-overs squad to face the West Indies next month.

Bavuma’s first task will be to captain South Africa in the two-match Test series against the West Indies, starting February 28.

“Cricket South Africa would like to welcome Temba as the new captain of the Proteas men’s national team,” Nkwe said.

“He is a player who has vast captaincy experience both domestically and at the international level, having led both ODI and T20I teams since March 2021 when he was appointed.

Dean will help take the team forward after excellent work:-

We are confident that he will live up to all our expectations and help take the team forward after some excellent work done by his predecessor Dean during the same period.

As part of the restructuring, CSA will review the processes of the national selection committee.

This led to the decision to relieve Victor Mpitsang of his role as national convenor of selectors. In the interim structure, the head coaches of the respective teams will play a leading role in squad selection.
