With Shreyas Iyer injured and Hanuma Vihari and Suryakumar Yadav out of form, the selectors want Rahane to be ready as a backup for the WTC Final 2023 against Australia at The Oval.
During IPL 2023, Rahane and others will have to practice with regular red ball as per PTI.
Shreyas Iyer is struggling with his back injury and he is undergoing surgery. Because of which he is not a part of the WTC finals.
On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav has been a golden duck four times in his last 6 innings. After which he has suspense over his place in the World Test Championship against Australia.
On the other hand, Ajinkya Rahane has done better in the red ball season at his level and is scoring runs in IPL 20023 as well.
With Rahane being the only experienced player to score runs for India in England, he is a strong contender to play in the middle order.
Rahane has scored 634 runs in 7 matches in Ranji Trophy at an impressive average of 57.63. During this, he also scored a double century, one hundred and two centuries for Mumbai in 7 matches.
WTC Finals a long way to go:-
Ajinkya Rahane after scoring a half-century for Chennai Super Kings said, “Still, there is a long way to go for the WTC final.
I was not sure of my place in the eleven and I found out just before the toss. For me it’s about taking it one game at a time and living in the moment.
Anything can happen. I will never give up. For me it is about playing with joy and passion.
On the other hand, a BCCI official told Sport, “Yes, Surya’s form is a matter of concern. But he still has a chance to return to it.
If he manages to come out on top, he still has room. Both Shubman and KL are important members of the Test team and barring any injury, should pick themselves up.”
