The Gloucestershire Announces England’s David Lawrence As Their First Black President

The former England’s fast bowler David Lawrence has been appointed Gloucestershire’s first black president in the club’s 152-year history.

A Career in England Cricket in 1992:-

David Lawrence, whose career in England cricket was forcibly cutting short in 1992 after suffering a terrible knee injury.

He took 625 wickets in 280 matches for Gloucestershire between 1981 and 1997, in which he formed a dangerous pace attack with Courtney Walsh and Kevin Curran.

“I am a local boy, born in Gloucester and I came to Bristol when I was 16, so it is a great honor to be back as President.

Lawrence said as Reported by ESPNcricinfo:-

It shows you how far we have come as a club, it shows me where the game is going and where it is expecting to go,” Lawrence said as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

“But I’m not here only as a symbolic gesture, and what I mean is that a lot has happened in cricket in the last six months, and we know we expect to do more within the game.

I’m happy to make sure we’re heading in the right direction. It is time for more diversity. And I know I am going to be the first President of color in Gloucestershire. And that means a lot to me.” He said.

The Replaced Roger Gibbons on Tenure:-

The former pacer has replaced Roger Gibbons on a two-year stint as chairman of Gloucestershire.

“I think it’s important that we get more inner-city kids, black, white, male and female, playing sports.

I would love to see a local boy go out to play for Gloucestershire.

I would be very happy to see this happen and this is what we want; We all want to see more local boys and girls play for Gloucestershire,” he said.
