The Plane That Brought The Team Stranded in Barbados To India Got A Special Name. India CRUSHED it at the T20 World Cup 2024! The champions are finally back home after a whirlwind celebration.
They met the Prime Minister, got a hero’s welcome at the airport, and are now headed to Mumbai for a victory parade. Pretty epic, right?
But here’s something cool you might not know: getting our cricket heroes home from Barbados wasn’t exactly smooth sailing.
Why A Special Plane?
Remember India’s big win against South Africa on June 29th? Yeah, the plan was for the team to fly back from Barbados on July 1st, with a stopover in New York and Dubai. Easy peasy.

Except, Mother Nature had other plans. A nasty storm named ‘Beryl’ hit Barbados, shutting down the entire city and the airport with it. Yep, the flight our champions were supposed to be on got cancelled!
Rescuing The Champs!
The BCCI (the guys who manage the Indian cricket team) weren’t going to let a little storm stop them. They swung into action and arranged a special flight to bring everyone back home safely.
The Plane That Brought Our Champs Home
This special plane? It was a giant Air India Boeing-777! Think of it as a flying palace that can fit around 400 people and comes with all the bells and whistles for a super comfortable journey. Plus, Air India put their most experienced crew on the job to make sure it was a smooth ride.
A Name Fit for Champions!
But here’s the coolest part: The Indian government gave this special plane a special name – “Air India Champions 24 World Cup”!
