These three giants in the race for the head coach of the Indian women’s team. The Indian Women’s Cricket Team is going to get its first head coach soon.

According to some reports, the women’s team may get its coach in two years, on or before July 3. BCCI has made a shortlist of five people for this.

In which domestic veterans Amol Mazumdar and Tushar Arothe are in the lead along with John Lewis. It is expected that the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will conduct the interview in the coming days.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Amol Majumdar, Tushar Arothe and John Lewis are three of the five contenders in the BCCI’s shortlist to lead the Indian women’s team.

The CAC will interview the candidates on July 1-2 in Mumbai before taking a decision. John Lewis, who was a contender for a role in the England women’s cricket team.

Lewis lost his job to his namesake John Lewis, who also worked in the backroom staff of UP Warriors.

Amol Muzumdar has been an active coach since bidding farewell to his 21-year first-class career. He served as the head coach of Mumbai till last season and has an offer from Baroda.

Muzumdar is believed to be staking claim for the women’s team role. He will take a call on Baroda’s proposal after the CAC’s decision.

The former Mumbai legend has never played for India but has coaching experience with the Rajasthan Royals and the South Africa team on their tours of India.

John Lewis worked with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh:-

Along with this, John Lewis has worked with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and is now the head coach of The Hundred team Trent Rockets.

India women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur will play for the Rockets this season. It is yet to be seen whether Lewis will have to leave his post for the BCCI job.

Meanwhile, it is unconfirmed whether the current interim coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar is part of the shortlist or not. The former India batsman was handed the top job after the T20 World Cup.

He is likely to lead the team for the series against Bangladesh. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. haven’t played international cricket since the T20 World Cup in South Africa in February-March.

The new head coach will be given a longer tenure due to the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in 2024 and the 50-over World Cup in India in 2025.
