Current coach Rahul Dravid’s contract is till the 2023 World Cup and according to a report in News18 CricketNext, the Indian cricket board is looking at VVS Laxman, head of cricket at the NCA, to succeed him as the head coach.

VVS Laxman, 48, was also in line for Dravid’s appointment in November 2021. He tops the list and has previously been on coaching assignments with the Indian team in Dravid’s absence.

Dravid was on leave due to COVID-19:-

He was with the team for the 2022 edition of the Asia Cup when Dravid was on leave due to COVID-19 and has also traveled as coach of Team India for various bilateral series in the past.

Currently, Laxman is working in the NCA as Operations Manager and grooming the next generation, just like Dravid did before he was appointed head coach of the senior team.

Laxman has also traveled with the India Under-19 team for the 2022 World Cup and played a very active role with the youth team during their successful campaign.

With Hardik Pandya set to take over as T20 captain, and Rohit Sharma likely to continue as Test and ODI skipper, the thought of split coaching seems unlikely.

A senior BCCI official set-up:-

When asked about the possibility of split coaching in the set-up, a senior BCCI official said, “Has this happened before in Indian cricket?”

T20 is emerging as a different dynamism in the cricket ecosystem and the demands of the format require a different and specialist approach.

Hardik as captain is a step in the right direction but more measures are needed to meet the demands of this format.

There is very little coaching required at the T20 level. And it is more about a person who can align the players in the right direction. Exactly the kind of role that Ravi Shastri has played in his tenure. As the head coach of the Indian team. Perfectly performed during the tenure.

Dravid is the coach of the Indian cricket team:-

Since taking over from Shastri, Rahul Dravid has had an indifferent stint as the coach of the Indian cricket team. In the period after November 2021.
