Gautam has asked for this apology, not for any recent incident but for remembering a 12-year-old incident. This incident happened when KKR won the IPL 2012 title under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir.

This incident happened when the Kolkata Knight Riders team reached the final of IPL 2012 under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. The challenge before him was the most dangerous team of that time, the Chennai Super Kings.

McCullum Was Part Of That KKR Team:-

In that final match, KKR had to make a forced change due to the injury of Lakshmipathy Balaji. McCullum was a part of that KKR team and Gambhir was forced to bring Brett Lee in place of Balaji.

Even at that time, there was a rule that four foreign players could play. So looking at the team combination, he dropped McCullum and Manvinder Bisla started the innings with Gambhir.

This move of Gambhir was useful for the team and Bisla also became the hero of victory for the team. But despite being the captain, he had apologized to McCullum for excluding him. Gambhir has shared a video on his Instagram account in which he is telling about this incident.

He said that a captain is not there just for praise, nor should he always take the credit for success. Rather, as a leader or captain, sometimes you have to face such a situation.

Recalling this entire incident, Gambhir said that he had apologized to McCullum in front of the entire team. He said that he said, ‘I had said sorry to Brendon in front of the entire team before going to Chepauk before the final match. I said I’m sorry that I had to drop you. The reason for this is not your performance but our combination.
