Why Did PCB Terminate Haris Rauf’s Central Contract?

Pakistan Cricket Board: Why did PCB terminate Haris Rauf’s central contract? PCB on Thursday terminated the central contract of fast bowler Haris Rauf with the national team.

The Refusal To Join Pakistan’s Test Team:-

The national cricket governing body issued a statement saying, “Haris Rauf has been punished by the PCB following an investigation into his refusal to be included in Pakistan’s Test squad for Australia tour 2023-24.”

The PCB had constituted a committee, which took this decision after a thorough hearing process and investigation of the matter. During this process, the views of all stakeholders related to the matter were taken into account.

Rauf’s Central Contract Has Been Terminated With Effect From December 1, 2023:-

The statement said, “Haris Rauf’s central contract has been terminated with effect from December 1, 2023 and no NOC will be given to play in any league (including foreign leagues) till June 30, 2024.”

PCB gave Haris Rauf a personal hearing but found the reply he gave unsatisfactory. Pakistan Cricket Board said that playing for Pakistan is the highest honor and privilege for any player.

Rauf Refused To Be A Part Of The Test Team For Pakistan:-

Haris Rauf refused to be a part of the Test team for Pakistan, whereas according to the Central Contract, any cricketer doing so without a medical report or giving a proper reason is a violation of the rules.

Rauf was neither injuring nor had any solid reason to refuse to be part of the Test team but he did so. He violated the rules of PCB’s central contract.

Haris Rauf had refused to be a part of the Pakistan team in the Test series against Australia playing from December 2023 to January 2024. He had agreed to play in the Big Bash League, which is playing in Australia only.

Rauf was worrying about workload and fitness but the Pakistan team physio declared him fit. Rauf had replied to PCB’s show cause notice that he had not played enough red ball practice matches. According to the central contract, any cricketer must be unconditionally available for the national team.
