Controversy has arisen many times over the years regarding the ICC’s soft signal rule

no soft signal

Controversy had arisen many times over the years regarding the ICC’s soft signal rule. Now the umpire will not say this rule while seeking help from the TV umpire. Rather, now the on-field umpires will talk to the third umpire before taking any decision in this regard.

Recommendation of the committee headed by Sourav Ganguly

The committee headed by Sourav Ganguly recommended this which has been accepted by the ICC. Now this rule will be applicable from June 1. Whereas from June 7, the final match of ICC WTC will be played between India and Australia. At the same time, this match will be played with the new rule.

What was the soft signal rule?

no soft signal

Now you will also understand what was this soft signal rule. So whenever the on-field umpire had any hesitation regarding a decision, he used to send that decision to the third umpire. But before sending his decision to the third umpire, he had to take a decision and convey it to the third umpire. This was called the soft signal rule.

Helmet Mandatory

Apart from this rule, now ICCE has made another change. The ICC has made helmets mandatory in three situations to protect players from injury. The first is if the batsman is facing the fast bowler, the wicketkeeper is standing near the stumps, and the fielder is standing near the batsman facing the wicket. So it is necessary to wear a helmet in all these three situations.

Run On Free Hit

On the other hand, the third rule is that if the ball hits the stump on a free hit and the batsman takes the run, then his run will be considered. Significantly, in the match played between India and Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup played in Australia last year, Imad Wasim bowled Virat Kohli with a free hit. And the runs were gone. There was a lot of controversy about this that this run would not count. But now the ICC has made it clear that in such a situation the run will be considered.
