Yuvraj Singh is all set to come out of retirement and play cricket in India again.
Times of India reported, Yuvraj Singh has been named in the Punjab squad for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
However, with Yuvraj Singh announcing his retirement last year, the left-hander and one of India’s greatest match-winners is seeking the official permission of the BCCI, especially from president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah to reverse his retirement.
The reason that Yuvraj Singh decided to come out was because PCA secretary Puneet Bali requested him to make a comeback so that he can guide the youngsters in the team.
Yuvraj Singh has spoken about how he likes to spend time with youngsters and mould them accordingly so that they will be ready for international cricket.
“I realised that they were able to pick up various things that I was telling them. I had to get into the nets to show them a few other elements, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well I was hitting the ball even though I hadn’t held a bat for a really long time. Initially, I wasn’t sure that I wanted to take up the offer.
I was done with domestic cricket, though I did want to continue to play in other domestic franchise-based leagues worldwide if I got permission from the BCCI. The motivation is to help Punjab win championships. Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh), myself, we have won tournaments, but we haven’t done it together for Punjab, so that was a big factor in my final call.,” Yuvraj Singh had told Cricbuzz around September.
Yuvraj Singh had uploaded a photo on his Instagram handle where he is striking the ball cleanly. Recently, Yuvraj Singh celebrated his 39th birthday and he will be keen to help Punjab win domestic titles.
Yuvraj Singh is considered as one of the greatest match-winners India have ever had. His all-round abilities helped India win the 2011 ICC World Cup for the first time in 28 years while his breath-taking batting in the ICC World T20 in 2007.
In 2002, he was part of the ICC Champions Trophy side that shared the cup with Sri Lanka due to a wash-out in the final.
In the IPL, Yuvraj Singh has been part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians titles in 2016 and 2019.
