Dav Whatmore has informed the Nepal Cricket Association of his desire to resign as head coach of the men’s national team at the end of the next round of ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 matches in Oman on 19 September.
Whitmore 67, is understood to have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which made it difficult for her to see her family.
Appointed as head coach
Former Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe coach Whatmore was appointed as Nepal’s head coach in December last year and took over in early 2021 with Australia qualifying for the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Nepal failed to qualify for the 2021 fix. Whatmore took over after Nepal went without a head coach for nearly ten months following the resignation of Umesh Patwal.
Nepal is currently ranked sixth in the seven-team CWC League 2 list with four points from four matches. Few series in the competition have been affected by the pandemic, and table-toppers Oman has played ten games at this stage, while the United States, currently second on the table, has played 12 games.
Face of Nepal
At Al Amrat in September, Nepal will face the home section and the United States, with the hope that it will somehow move up the list.

Whatmore’s highest honor as a coach is guiding Sri Lanka to the 50-over World Cup title in 1996. He then oversaw Bangladesh’s progress from 2003–07 and led them to the Super Eight of the 2007 50-over World Cup. He knocked out India and also troubled South Africa.
In the past
He has also coached the Indian home team Kerala for two seasons along with the Kolkata Knight Riders IPL franchise, who made their first Ranji Trophy semi-final in 2018-19 under his leadership.
