Georgetown, Jan 13 (PTI) Despite a humiliating defeat at the hands of India in their Under-19 World Cup warm-up match, Australia captain Cooper Connolly is confident that his team will do well in the tournament. The tournament will be played in the West Indies from January 14 to February 5. The Indian team beat Australia by nine wickets in the warm-up match. Connolly, who was a member of the Australian team that reached the quarter-finals of the tournament hosted by him two years ago, said, “We have prepared well. The loss against India was a warning bell but we were first.”

Team India beat Australia by nine wickets in practice match

Connolly, who was a member of the Australian team that reached the quarter-finals of the tournament hosted by him two years ago, said, “We have prepared well. The loss against India was an alarm bell but we are preparing well for the first match.”

“We have to start well by beating West Indies. Since the last World Cup, we have been aiming to do well in this tournament.”

Defending champion Bangladesh defeated Zimbabwe in a warm-up match. Now they have to play the first match of Group A against England on Sunday.

Captain Rakibul Hasan said, “Our senior team has done well in New Zealand, which will inspire us. Hopefully we can do well.”

Pakistan captain Qasim Akram also said, “We are inspired by the kind of fighting spirit our senior team showed in the T20 World Cup in UAE. The pitches here are similar to Karachi, which will give turn and help us adapt here.”
