Devon Conway and Young see NZ through Tight Opening Spells

After a hard start from Bangladesh pacers Devon Conway and Will Young, New Zealand were comfortably lunched at 66 for 1. The home team scored a mere 15 runs in 13 overs in the first hour, but as the ball got a bit old, the scoring kept going easy.

Conway Playing First International Match :-

Devon Conway, playing his first international match apart from suffering a strange hand injury during the T20 World Cup in November, remained unbeaten on 36 off 77 balls with the help of five fours. Will Young made 27 runs in 73 balls with the help of three fours in place of injured captain Kane Williamson.

The pair came together in the fourth over when left-arm quick Shorful Islam caught stand-in captain Tom Latham for 1. The ball rolled down Latham’s inner edge to his pads, to move away from wicketkeeper Liton Das, who was about to dive. He left to complete his wicket.

A Time is Taken to Open The Scoring :-

Taskin and Shorful conceded only eight runs in their first spell. New Zealand took their time to open the scoring. Waiting for Abadot Hossain to be flown into the finish by captain Mominul Haque.

Just before the hour, Conway hit Abadot for two boundaries before Young hit a beautiful straight drive off a satisfaction ball in the next over. In the 21st over, Conway hit Shorful for a boundary before Young pulled Santosh to square leg.

The Shoreful’s Outgoing :-

Bangladesh bowlers were generally fine with their spells, occasionally patting the bat. Taskin showed why he had emerged as the leader of the attack in Tests. While Shoreful’s outgoing left-handed delivery meant he faced both Will Young and Devon Conway before Latham was dismissed.

The only fault in Bangladesh’s attack was probably giving the New Zealand batsmen too much watch. As there were too many deliveries outside the off-stump.
