Diana Baig has returned to the Pakistan squad for the upcoming ODI and T20I series in Australia and has also been named in the team’s 15-member squad for the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup to be played in South Africa.

Out of the team due to shoulder injury – last appearance in Asia Cup

The veteran seamer had been out of action in recent months with a shoulder injury, having been ruled out of the home series against Ireland. His last appearance for Pakistan came during their group-stage encounter against Thailand in the Asia Cup.

Left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal and leg-spinner Tuba Hasan have also returned to the squad for the T20 World Cup. After being ruled out of the Ireland series due to hand and index finger injuries respectively. While Sadia has been selected for the Australia series as well as the World Cup. Tuba will only be a part of the traveling reserves for the ODI series in Australia. With Javeria Khan and Aiman Anwar – World Cup with all three part of the team for T20.

Pakistan will play three ODIs against Australia, which will form part of the ICC Women’s Cricket Championship 2022-25 cycle, on 16, 18, and 21 January, followed by three T20 matches on 24, 26, and 29 January.

Meanwhile, Ghulam Fathima, Sadaf Shamas, and Kainaat Imtiaz have been included in the ODI squad. They will be the traveling reserves for the T20Is. Kainaat and Fatima were part of the Pakistan team during the Ireland series. Wicketkeeper Sidra Nawaz has also been included in the squad as a backup for Muneeba Ali. Pakistan has announced the same team for the T20 series against Australia and the World Cup.

Speaking on the teams selected for the two series, chief selector Asmavia Iqbal said, “The ODI series against Australia is very important. Expectations are high as we have won five out of six ICC Championship matches. And our aim is to directly qualify for the World Cup.” To qualify for the 50-over World Cup.

“We have relied heavily on the senior players in building the team for the World Cup. And we expect them to use their experience on the field and get positive results for the team.

The team will undergo a training camp, which will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will hold in Lahore from 25 to 28 December. He will then proceed to Karachi, where he will have the second phase of the camp before leaving for Australia on January 6.
