Draw Between New Zealand and Sri Lanka, Great Innings of Leading Sri Lankan Batsman

Sri Lanka on New Zealand tour (NZ vs SL) started the tour with a tour match. The two-day tour match between New Zealand XI and Sri Lanka at Lincoln ended in a draw. Play was not possible on the second day due to rain and the match ended in a draw. Playing first, Sri Lanka declared their innings on 276/4, in response New Zealand scored 141/1.

Sri Lanka got the chance to bat first. The opening pair of Oshada Fernando and captain Dimuth Karunaratne added 37 runs for the first wicket. Karunaratne got out after scoring 21 runs. Fernando and Kusal Mendis shared a century partnership for the second wicket. During this, Mendis batted aggressively and managed to complete his half-century. By the time of lunch, Sri Lanka had scored 137/1 in 31 overs.

Sri Lanka Declared their Innings at 276/4 After Playing 57.3 Overs

After lunch, a 150-run partnership was completed between the two batsmen. Fernando was also successful in completing his half-century. The team lost its second wicket at a score of 199 and Kusal Mendis was dismissed after scoring 95 runs in 87 balls. Oshada Fernando retired hurt on 205 after scoring 78 runs. Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal took the score to 276 from here. Chandimal played an inning of 35 runs. Mathews also went on to score 38 as Sri Lanka declared their innings at 276/4 after playing 57.3 overs.

New Zealand Got a Start of 55 Runs for the First Wicket

New Zealand came out to bat after tea and got a start of 55 runs for the first wicket. Opener Jacob Cumming became the victim of Lahiru Kumara after scoring 27 runs. The other opener and captain, Jack Boyle, along with Jacob Bhula, propelled the innings and did not allow any wicket to fall till stumps on the first day. Boyle remained unbeaten on 73 and Bhula scored 37 runs.

The two-Test series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka will begin on March 9. The first match of the series will be played in Christchurch.
