ENG vs SA: 40-year-old James Anderson fills up

The Test series between South Africa and hosts England is going to start from August 17. Once again in this series, the one player on whom everyone’s eyes will be fixed is the great England fast bowler James Anderson. Before the start of the series, this fast bowler has also given an open challenge to the South African team not to go by his age as there is no shortage of his edge.

Significantly, James Anderson and fast bowler Stuart Broad were dropped from the West Indies tour after their poor performance in the Ashes Test series against Australia. He then returned to the team for the Test series against New Zealand and the rescheduled fifth Test against India, where he bowled brilliantly.

Anderson is the highest Test wicket-taker in the world among fast bowlers with 657 wickets in 172 matches. He is also the third highest wicket-taker in Test cricket after Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan and late Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne.

James Anderson is preparing to play the 173rd Test match of his career at Lord’s

James Anderson is preparing to play the 173rd Test match of his career at Lord’s, when England host South Africa this week, and the competition will prove crucial in deciding next year’s World Test Championship final. While many expect James Anderson to turn 40 now, the pacer says he still has the hunger to improve.

Been working hard and training for a few weeks

The ICC quoted James Anderson as saying, “I don’t look at age, I just focus on my bowling. For the past few weeks I have been working hard and training. Trying to work on my bowling again. Hopefully I can show that on the field.”

Backed by coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes, Anderson took the 32nd innings five-wicket haul of his Test career during England’s most recent Test victory over India at Birmingham and is currently the third by any player during the World Test Championship period. Most wickets (40) taken.
