Cape Town: South African batsman and limited overs captain Temba Bavuma was on Wednesday ruled out of the England tour with a left elbow injury. Bavuma will miss the three-Test series against England, apart from three ODIs and as many T20Is. He will also miss two T20 matches against Ireland. Temba Bavuma was injured during the T20I series against India this month. According to Cricket South Africa (CSA), he will take eight weeks to recover from the injury.

Keshav Maharaj will replace Temba Bavuma as the one-day international captain, while David will jointly play the role of T20 captain. Dean Elgar is South Africa’s regular Test captain but Temba Bavuma is an important top-order batsman in the Test team. CSA has brought back 32-year-old batsman Riley Rossoyu in the T20 team. He last played for South Africa in 2016 but later joined England’s county side Hampshire.

Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been rested from the ODIs but is included in the T20 and Test squads. Young fast bowler Gerald Koetze will be the new face in the T20 team. The tour will begin on 19 July and the first one-day international will be played in Durham. The Test series will be held in August-September. Test matches will be played at Lord’s, Old Trafford and The Oval.
