England Cricket: After Joe Root, this player can become the new captain of England

England Cricket: England’s swashbuckling batsman Joe Root recently surprised everyone by deciding to leave the captaincy of the Test team. The performance of England’s Test team under the captaincy of Joe Root was not special for some time. In such a situation, he took this big decision. Now the England team needs a new Test captain.

After Root, this player can become the new Test captain :-

Former England captain Michael Atherton has named star Ben Stokes to be the new England captain in place of Joe Root. Root had resigned from the Test captaincy on Friday after a humiliating defeat in the Ashes and the recent three-Test series against the West Indies.

The England great also said that the 30-year-old Stokes could lead the Test side as Root stepped down of his own accord and the two share a good relationship.

England cricket has no option other than Stokes :-

Atherton said on Sky Sports, ‘There are not many options other than him. You have to pick someone worthy of his place in the team. He further said, ‘Ben Stokes is clearly the only option for the captain. Root has stepped down of his own free will, he will continue to help.

Ben Stokes is very loyal to Root and if offered to step in, he would feel very comfortable about taking the job.

At present, Stokes is the vice-captain of the team :-

Stokes is being looked to replace Joe Root as he is guaranteed a place in the team; if he is fit and is currently the vice-captain of the Test side. Atherton, 54, also felt that Root should have stepped down after the Ashes loss in Australia.
