England Test Team Head Coach Brendon McCullum in Trouble, Shared Video on Facebook, ECB is Investigating

London. England head coach Brendon McCullum has landed in trouble for appearing in online betting advertisements as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) investigates whether it breaches its anti-corruption rules. This former New Zealand captain became the brand ambassador of betting organization ’22bet’ in January. After that he appeared in its online advertisements. He shared a video on his Facebook page on March 27. In which he is promoting 22bet in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to the BBC, the ECB said, “We are investigating this matter and discussing with Brendan his relationship with 22bet. We have rules and regulations regarding betting and we always ensure that they are fully followed.” The ECB, however, clarified that Brendon McCullum is not currently under any investigation.

Brendon McCullum Encourages Betting on IPL

The Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand made a complaint to the ECB about these ads last week. In these advertisements, Brendon McCullum encourages betting on IPL. In a video posted on Facebook, he says: “IPL is coming. And I think all cricket fans are excited for this big event. My friends at 22Bet are ready to make your IPL experience even more exciting. 22Bet India guarantees the best odds.”

Pursuant to the ECB’s Anti-Corruption Code, “Participants” are prohibited from directly or indirectly soliciting, persuading, encouraging or influencing any other party in connection with the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of any match or competition. The other party has been banned for betting.”

England have Won 10 of the last 12 Test Matches After McCullum Became the Coach

At the same time, Brendon McCullum’s agent Simon Autry said in a statement to the Times newspaper, “We are talking to the ECB about this. I am not commenting on anything.
