Former England Lions batsman Varun Chopra retires from cricket

Former England Lions batsman Varun Chopra retires from cricket, who won County Championship titles in Essex and Warwickshire, has retired from the professional game at the age of 34.

Chopra came via Essex :-

Varun Chopra came via Essex, becoming the club’s youngest ever Championship Centurion in 2006 (a record since being relegated by Dan Lawrence).

He left for Warwickshire in late 2009, going on to captain the club as well as gaining acceptance with the Lions.

He helped Warwickshire win the championship in 2012, scored 1000 first-class runs in all three consecutive years, and also earned them the T20 Blast title in 2014.

Varun’s contract expired in 2016 :-

Chopra also took over the captaincy of the club, only to return to Chelmsford when his contract expired in 2016. He was part of the Essex squad that claimed the first championship in 25 years in 2017.

As well as being a member of a team for the Blast Championship double. Two years later he also won the success of the previous season’s Bob Willis Trophy.

With certain opportunities in recent seasons, Chopra also spent time on debt at Sussex and Middlesex.
