Maharashtra opener Ruturaj Gaikwad was at his best in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-final against Uttar Pradesh and his unbeaten 220 helped the side post 330 runs on the board in the allotted fifty overs. However, the best part of his knock came in the final over of the innings as he scored 43 off Shiva Singh. In this special over, Ruturaj Gaikwad hit seven consecutive sixes.

After hitting Shiva Singh for 42 runs in an over, Ruturaj became the first batsman in the history of List-A cricket to score so many runs in an over.

The fifth ball of the over turned out to be a no-ball and the free-hit also went missing for a six, and so did the unthinkable, taking 43 runs from the over.

He has also achieved Rohit Sharma’s record of hitting most sixes (16) in a List-A innings. Ruturaj Gaikwad played an inning of 220 runs in just 159 balls with the help of 10 fours and 16 sixes. The strike-rate of his innings was 138.36. Apart from Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ankit Bawne and Azim Kazi also played useful innings of 37-37 runs. Kartik Tyagi took three wickets for Uttar Pradesh.
