Gautam Gambhir, a former World Cup winner with India in 2011, feels come the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, the BCCI will have to manage players who feature in all three formats by giving priority to ODIs over T20Is.
Gambhir said on Star Sports –
“If they want to take a break, people who play more than three formats, they can definitely take a break from T20 cricket, but definitely not from the ODI format. They got to play together.”
“I think the biggest mistake Indian cricket has made in the last two World Cups is that these guys haven’t played enough cricket together. Tell me how many times have we got the best playing 11 on the park?”
“We didn’t do that, only during the World Cup we decided to have the best playing 11 but unfortunately that was never the best playing 11. They want to take a break from T20 or IPL. But the break should be in T20 format. Not in 50 overs.”
Gambhir further suggested that –
He further suggested that the board needs to ensure that players need to feature more for the national side, even if it means missing out on its star players at the cost of IPL franchises.
