Giles had to step down after humiliating Ashes series defeat

London, Feb 3 (AP) Following an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Australia in the Ashes series, England team’s managing director Ashley Giles, who held the position for three years, has been sacked.
Former Test captain Ashley Giles will replace him on an interim basis.

Tom Harrison, chief executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board, said, “After a disappointing performance in this Ashes series this time, we have to work to avoid repeating it further.”

England won the 50-over World Cup for the first time with Giles but the Test format was disappointing.

Giles, former England Test spinner, said, “The last few years have been very challenging. I am proud that we have been able to perform well even in difficult situations. Now I will spend time with family before taking on the next responsibility.”
