Glenn Phillips Helps Welsh Fire to Save With a Wooden Spoon

Welsh Fire and London Spirit performed to avoid wooden spoons in their talks in Cardiff on Wednesday (19 August) as the home team registered a three-wicket win. Glenn Phillips helped, After the result, the Spirit were at the bottom of the table with six losses in the ongoing edition of The Hundred.

Adam Rossington’s Wicket Could Not Stop the Australian:

He had a very good start with the bat and Josh Inglis put on an opening partnership of 40 runs. Adam Rossington’s wicket did not stop the Australian as he continued to have fun with Joe Cracknell. The two put on a total of 63 runs for the second wicket before Ryan Higgins took the first of his three wickets. Eoin Morgan played an important innings of 25 runs in 12 balls and Inglis scored 72 runs in about 45 balls and Spirit played a strong total of 163 runs on the board.

He got off to a great start with the ball after getting both the opposition openers out for ducks. Blake Cullen sent both David Lloyd and Tom Banton back to the pavilion in the first five balls. And Bradley Wheel sent Ben Duckett to the pavilion shortly after leaving the fire reeling at 20/3. However, the tables quickly changed with Glenn Phillips attempting to strike again in the chase.

Qais Ahmed Hits Back-to-Back Boundaries:

Luis du Ploy played a perfect foil at the other end as Phillips scored most of the runs in their total partnership of 93 runs. Before departing at the end, the New Zealand batsman hit seven sixes in his innings of 80 runs in 35 balls. Even after the momentum in their favor at that stage, the fire gave the spirit an opening towards the end and the visitors infiltrated more. Eventually, the domestic side got the job done. Qais Ahmed hit back-to-back boundaries when his team needed 7 out of 4.
